Fifteen years after Douglas Scott supposedly hanged himself in
his cell, a team of senior US and British forensic scientists has
found the Aborigine's death was more consistent with
strangulation. Scott, charged with using obscene language, had
been on remand for more than a month in Darwin's jail when he
died in 1985.
The forensic report has been prepared at the request of
Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, which has been helping Mrs
Letty Scott in a 11-year battle to have her husband's death
reinvestigated after the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths
in Custody found Scott hanged himself.
Mrs Scott, never happy with the commission's investigation,
has been demanding inquiries into allegations from other
prisoners that her husband was beaten in his cell the night
before his death....
