The appellate review of the Abadilla Five case took nine years to complete. On 1 April 2008, the Court of Appeals (CA) has affirmed the lower court's eight year old decision to convict them for the murder of an influential police colonel, Rolando Abadilla, in June 1996.
However, the CA's decision has not been substantial and real. They have ignored the arguments made by the legal counsels of the accused in their appeals. They, too, have virtually made themselves prosecutors when they plagiarized the arguments invoked by the prosecution in their appeals brief.
On May 5, the five accused and their legal counsels sought for the Supreme Court's (SC) intervention to declare the CA's decision as “null and void”; and for them to take over in resolving the case to ensure that a substantial review is conducted promptly.
